One of Labour’s candidates for Exmouth Town, Josie Parkhouse, highlighted the issue of plastic waste by participating in a beach clean on Exmouth Beach organised by Plastic Free Exmouth.

Plastic Free Exmouth organise weekly beach cleans (on Sunday at 8.30am) picking up litter, plastic, string- anything unnatural that makes its way onto the beach.

Josie was shocked to see how much plastic was collected but impressed with the plans Nick and Alison, from Plastic Free Exmouth, have for making Exmouth a greener place to live.

Plans include making community bunting that can be rented out for events and take the place of plastic balloons, an art piece made from microplastics collected on the beach and even a plastic free festival at the end of the year!

Josie commented “Plastic Free Exmouth is one of many amazing community led groups we have in Exmouth that have been taking concrete action to make Exmouth a nicer place to live. I commend their hard work and will definitely be joining them again.”
