Devon Labour Devon County Labour

Some things I learnt today π
-63% of Councillors are male, only 36% are female
-The average age of councillors in 2018 was 59 years
As a 29 year old female I guess I’m not the average candidate for councillor! π
Nevertheless, here is my candidate bioπ
“I am honoured to be selected as the Labour candidate for Exmouth, and if elected I promise to work my hardest responding to residents’ concerns and representing them in Devon County Council.
Born and raised in Devon I am now a part-time English teacher and social media freelancer. I am running to be a Devon County Councillor because I love my community and am passionate about fighting poverty, inequality and creating a more sustainable future.
I worked for an MP in Parliament for 18 months which taught me a lot about serving the community, campaigning for change and cross-party collaboration.
My policy focuses are:
-A green recovery from COVID-19 focusing on supporting the hardest hit and most vulnerable in the community whilst taking real action against climate change
-Providing more job opportunities to young people
-Supporting schools, teachers and parents so that young people have the best chance in life
-Championing existing community groups which have done so much during COVID-19 to keep everyone in the community safe and healthy
-Promoting the physical and mental well-being of residents
But democracy is a conversation, not a monologue so please get in touch and let me know what issues are most important to you in these upcoming elections!”
