Tavistock
Tavistock has been let down at County Hall. Let’s work together for the fairer deal Devon deserves. #TaviTogether
It’s such a privilege to be campaigning for where I was born and where my family have lived for four generations. Starting out as farmers, we now operate a successful recycling business in West Devon.
I’ve worked in some fascinating and varied roles – ranging from a reciprocal exchange in the USA, flying for Australia’s national airline and even as a ships officer. I have a keen interest in mental health, volunteer with the Royal Voluntary Service, enjoy fitness training and walks on my native Dartmoor.
A Philosophy and Politics graduate, I have previously worked for MPs and peers in Westminster and have twice stood for election to Parliament, returning the highest vote for Labour since 1997 – right here in West Devon. Serving as a Plymouth City Councillor until 2018, I scrutinised policy and campaigned to keep libraries, GP surgeries and sexual assault referral clinics open. Outside of the chamber, I have served as a school governor and worked tirelessly to bring people together – supporting community groups and helping individual residents with hundreds of pieces of casework.
We face extraordinary times. Devon is the second most Covid exposed economic area in the UK. So, in Devon we expect a prolonged recovery that takes at best until the end of 2023, or even longer. That’s why this local election matters. From reducing health inequalities, integrating social care, improving transport through to prioritising early years and doing more for sustainable rural communities and on food production and policy, there are huge challenges and also opportunities.
I have a record of campaigning on issues, delivering for residents and keeping my promises.
