My name’s Oliver Tucker and I’m the Labour and Cooperative candidate for Axminster.
I’m a home-based UCL student, having had my A-Levels cancelled last summer. Since then, I’ve been working in a local restaurant, volunteering at the local foodbank and spending the rest of my time enjoying the fantastic part of the world we live in.
We are so lucky to live where we do, that’s never rung more true than over the last few months. It truly is a blessing to have the vast, green, open space of the countryside, as well as the beaches that are practically next-door for many of us.
However, having pride in our local area does not mean we can’t be aware of acute socio-economic problems. We’ve suffered from ten years of Tory cuts and a year of the pandemic. Rural areas shouldn’t be at the back of the queue for reliable transport, yet I’ve often found myself waiting for delayed or cancelled trains. We don’t deserve to have the tenth most fragile economy in Devon, but this is the fact of the matter. And it cannot be fair that so many families in our community are forced to turn to the foodbank, because they cannot afford to eat.
I’m proud to stand on our manifesto that will tackle the key issues that Axminster faces.
If you’re a resident in the Axminster Division, please do drop me an email or a message on Facebook, I’d love to hear from you.
