Fairer Funding for Devon: Schools and other services are severely underfunded in Devon when compared to the rest of the country. The revenue support grant for Devon County Council has been cut from £135 million to £0.5 million since 2011 by successive Conservative governments, that is 25% of DCC’s £540 million budget. DCC employee numbers were cut from 6600 in 2011 to 3800 in 2018. That is the reward Devon has received for consistently electing a majority of Conservative councillors and MPs. The Conservatives are now focusing their efforts on bribing their new voters in the North, as a result Devon can expect an even lower share of resources. I will be campaigning to reverse this trend and secure Fairer Funding for Devon. Even if you normally vote conservative I suggest that you vote Labour in May to at least show the Tories that they can’t take support in Devon for granted. They need a wake up call!
