ISABEL SAXBY: I'm standing as the Labour Party candidate for Torridge and Tavistock in the General Election. I want to know your priorities as a resident in the constituency.

Other priority (please expand on the next page)
FARMING, BIODIVERSITY AND CLIMATE ACTION I want to protect our rural landscape, heritage and economy, including cherished views, woodlands, hedgerows, sunken lanes, rural habitats and watercourses, at the same time as seeing our traditional family farms and rural economy thrive with investment in greater productivity. I want to see climate action across every sector supporting tree planting and rewilding, but also investment in economic and energy efficiency, and green energy production. What are your priorities for balancing our rural economy our environment and our climate crisis?
WASTE MANAGEMENT Torridge and Tavistock has been trialling collections to support recycling more of our household waste, and the UK government must swiftly move to resolve lorry driver shortages and to implement a national waste strategy to empower the planned local improvements. We have only three tips in the constituency at Bideford, Holsworthy, and Tavistock. What would you like to see changed?
HOUSING Like most of us, I'd like to tackle the housing crisis by prioritising local needs with a range, mix and type of housing, including HOUSING AFFORDABLE ON LOCAL WAGES, self-build and specialist housing. I am committed to FIGHTING HARD against overdevelopment. What do you consider our biggest priorities?
ECONOMIC RESILIENCE Many of us support our economy by shopping locally and supporting local community enterprises including energy retrofitting for climate action. Poor broadband and mobile are some of the biggest threats our local businesses deal with. Do our town and village centres need more strategic assistance, do we need more small business units for traders, apprenticeship schemes, and/or greater tourism promotion? Do we need more support for residents setting up community enterprises and trusts?
PUBLIC AND ACTIVE TRANSPORT Most of us want Devon County to move faster in delivering the Tavistock (and onward) rail link and cycle path, or bus services in the evening and Sunday are perhaps a bigger issue for many. Fostering inclusive and sustainable transportation systems involving improving bus routes, enhancing connectivity between rural areas, and exploring approaches to public transportation tailored to the needs of our diverse communities. What would make public transport work better for you and our communities?
ROADS AND TRAFFIC In Torridge and Tavistock, the high rate of vehicle ownership contributes to traffic congestion, particularly in central areas. With the ongoing roadworks on the A30 and other major routes affecting traffic flow, we need to consider various traffic management solutions. Do you support additional parking spaces, stricter parking enforcement, a 20 mph speed limit, restrictions on heavy goods vehicles, or infrastructure improvement in congested areas like Bideford or Great Torrington? Additionally, the condition of our roads, including the A386 and connections to Plymouth, is a concern for many residents. How important do you think it is to improve infrastructure at critical points? Your feedback will shape our campaign, pushing for the necessary road and traffic improvements in our constituency.
YOUTH, CULTURE AND COMMUNITY Our community can be proud of our dozens of volunteer, sports, leisure and community groups and social enterprises. Many of them fill a much needed gap maintaining our quality of life, particularly for the elderly, young and those with vulnerabilities. COVID has left us with a mental health legacy, among the isolated, carers and keyworkers including small business owners, and a rural attainment gap in education and personal development. What actions could we take with new or existing resources to give residents the best chance to catch up and recover?
HEALTH AND CARE Our social care systems are letting us down as a nation and as your MP I would push for the government to meet its responsibility to deal with the immediate crisis, at the same time as moving faster towards policies that meaningfully support people starting, living and aging well in life. We value our GP surgery, but many worry about availablity of appointments. More services are being pushed as telephone or internet only. What do you think we can do as residents and representatives to push for better health and wellbeing for our communities?
EDUCATION AND SKILLS Education is a national responsibility. As residents we want the best for our young people and as your MP I would want to push for all our students to have the greatest opportunities. This isn't limited to the primary and secondary schools, it also means opportunities for apprenticeship and lifelong learning that the government can support through funding and coordination. What would be your priorities?
CRIME, ANTI-SOCIAL BEHAVIOUR I want to make sure that everyone who causes harm to others in our community understands the impact of what they've done, and see restitution. Rural crime ruins lives and livelihoods and I will push our police and crime leaders for better results. I will fight to protect our fire stations and services. What specific issues related to crime and anti-social behaviour do you feel need to be addressed in our constituency so I can deliver solutions?
OR please let me know in your own words what you would like to see your MP push to improve?
